When Rick Hoyt was born in 1962 with cerebral palsy, doctors told his parents he would never walk, talk, or live a normal life 💔🧠. But his father, Dick Hoyt, saw something greater — not limitation, but possibility 🌟.

In 1977, Rick told his father that he wanted to join a charity race to help a paralyzed athlete. Though Dick had never been a runner, he agreed. He pushed Rick’s wheelchair for five miles — and when they crossed the finish line, Rick typed out the words that changed everything:

From that moment, Team Hoyt was born 🏁👨‍👦.

Over the next 40 years, the duo completed more than 1,100 races — marathons, triathlons, even an incredible cross-country journey across the United States 🇺🇸. Dick pushed the wheelchair through city streets, pedaled a bike with Rick’s seat in front 🚴‍♂️, and even swam across open waters towing his son in a raft 🏊‍♂️💪.

For Rick, these races were freedom.
