When Rick Hoyt was born in 1962 with cerebral palsy, doctors told his parents he would never walk, talk, or live a normal life ππ§ . But his father, Dick Hoyt, saw something greater β not limitation, but possibility π.
In 1977, Rick told his father that he wanted to join a charity race to help a paralyzed athlete. Though Dick had never been a runner, he agreed. He pushed Rickβs wheelchair for five miles β and when they crossed the finish line, Rick typed out the words that changed everything:
π βDad, when we run, it feels like Iβm not handicapped.β π
From that moment, Team Hoyt was born ππ¨βπ¦.
Over the next 40 years, the duo completed more than 1,100 races β marathons, triathlons, even an incredible cross-country journey across the United States πΊπΈ. Dick pushed the wheelchair through city streets, pedaled a bike with Rickβs seat in front π΄ββοΈ, and even swam across open waters towing his son in a raft πββοΈπͺ.
For Rick, these races were freedom.
For Dick, they were love in motion β€οΈ.
Together, they proved that true strength isnβt found in the body β itβs born from love, perseverance, and faith πΏποΈ.
Even after Dick passed away in 2021, their legacy continues to inspire millions.
Because love like theirs doesnβt stop at the finish line β it keeps running, heart to heart, forever. π«π£
