When 22-year-old college student Kiersten Miles took a babysitting job

When 22-year-old college student Kiersten Miles took a babysitting job, she thought it was just part-time work. Instead, she found herself bonded with little Talia, the Roskos’ youngest daughter.

But Talia was sick — battling a rare, life-threatening liver disease. Her only chance was a transplant.

Without hesitation, Kiersten stepped forward: “If part of my liver can help, then I want to do it.”

The Roskos never pressured her. They knew the risks were enormous. But Kiersten stood firm. Tests confirmed it — she was a perfect match.

On January 11, 2017, she and tiny Talia underwent a 14-hour surgery. Surgeons removed part of Kiersten’s liver and placed it into Talia’s fragile body.

The surgery worked. Kiersten recovered, and Talia was given a second chance at life.

Today, Talia runs, plays, and laughs like any child should — because one young woman chose courage over fear, and love over self.
